Q. What is the eighth article of the Creed?
A. The eighth article of the Creed is, ‘I believe in the Holy Spirit’.
Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God like the Father and the Son, and is a distinct Person in
Himself. He proceeds from the Father and Son, and is equal to them in every respect. He
is often called the ‘Love of God’, the ‘Paraclete’ or Comforter, and the ‘Dove’. He
appeared in the form of a dove at our Lord’s Baptism, and in the form of tongues of fire
on the day of Pentecost.
Q. Who is the Holy Spirit?
A. The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity.
Q. From whom does the Holy Spirit proceed?
A. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son.
Q. Is the Holy Spirit equal to the Father and to the Son?
A. The Holy Spirit is equal to the Father and to the Son, for he is the same Lord and God as they
are.
Q. When did the Holy Spirit come down on the Apostles?
A. The Holy Spirit came down on the Apostles on Pentecost, in the form of ‘parted tongues, as it
were, of fire. Acts 2:3
Pentecost. It means fiftieth, because it is the fiftieth day after Easter.
Q. Why did the Holy Spirit come down on the Apostles?
A. The Holy Spirit came down on the Apostles to confirm their faith, to sanctify them, and to
enable them to found the Church.
Confirm. To make firm or to strengthen.
Sanctify. To make holy, and pleasing to God.
Enable. To help, to assist, to make able.
